weekend
Friday
I had 2 classes (was supposed to have 3 but no one showed up. I think there was some miscommunication or something) so I ended up going back to the house and watching TV. Then I took a nap because I knew I needed some energy for bible study. At 6:30 I went to Ruth Lise’s and we hung out for awhile and waited for Damaris and David to come over. Then we all left and get Vero and headed out. It was about 1 hour away. In the direction of Aix en Provence. We got there really late (ie: we were planning on Ruth Lise’s at 7 and getting there around 8:30 or 9. we got there like 10:30 or something. Then we all talked for awhile. I understood so much. I was able to have good conversations, joke around and understand a lot. I was so happy. We had dinner together…we had salad, beef and potatoes and a pear chocolate tart. Yum yum. Raquel brought her roommate Rachael. Poor Rachael. She doesn’t speak French…yet. But she was a trooper and hung in there.. till we left at like 12:30 or something.
By the way, something I learned…don’t try to translate an English joke that’s a play on words into French. It just doesn’t work. I wish I could have taken pictures of our friend’s faces when they were trying to figure out the joke. But they were nice and kinda laughed anyway. Then we talked about English a little. I’ll never forget Olivier saying “its sooo cute. I love it.” In English. Also they had a pet chinchilla and it was so cute. I loved it. And then we found an earthworm on the floor…which is bizarre in itself. I don’t know how it got in the house. But I saved the day and picked it up and took it outside…earning a round of applause. Hahah.
Then we headed back and I spent the night at Ruth Lise’s and we got home at like 1:30. we stayed up talking till 3 or 3:30. I didn’t want to go to bed because I was having such a genius French day I didn’t want to have to start all over the next day. Oh well… I understood everything Ruth Lise said and I was able to communicate fairly well also. But alas, I went to bed.
Saturday
I hung out at Ruth Lise’s for a few hours. We slept till like 10:30. Then she took me back to my place. I was supposed to hang out with the Italian assistant and Theresa today, but Theresa decided to plan the time for 4 and since it is a 2 hour walk, and Theresa wouldn’t walk with me (she wanted to ride her bike) I decided I couldn’t go because I wouldn’t be able to stay cause it gets dark here like 6:30 and I didn’t want to walk home in the dark for 2 hours. So I went running instead. I ran and I took a shower and ate dinner and watched TV. I’ve also become a master at free cell on my computer.
Sunday
Sunday I went to church. I found the church I am going to continue to go to. It is CEP Centre evangelique protestante. So I went and it was good. After, there was a meal together and I met lots of people. Then I went hiking with Ruth Lise and 2 others…we ended up hiking a lot on the dark…it was fun. Then I hung out at Ruth Lise’s place for while then came home. It was an excellent day. There was a group of Anglophones at the church also. They came from a bible college in Scotland, but they were from Canada, Scotland, the faro islands, and England. So I got to talk to them a lot and they were really nice. They leave on Monday to go back home. It was funny because one of the guys from Scotland spoke at the church and they translated him. At the beginning it was easier for me to understand the French translation than to understand the Scottish accent. I have been having some good French days. I can understand, I can speak more, I can tell some jokes, or attempt to tell some jokes. It’s been really good.

Hi Jen! I'm glad to hear that the riots aren't affecting you! Glad you're safe :) Ask your friend Raquel if she knows someone named Abbey Vonville -- I think that I know her. Isn't that crazy! What a small world :) Have a wonderful Monday :)
Love,
Michelle and Joel (aka Step-brother-in-law) :)
